Bee Breath, also known as "Bhramari Pranayama," is a yoga breathing method that swiftly induces a sense of inner calm and relaxation. Named after its resemblance to the soft buzzing of a bee, this technique involves creating a humming sound during the exhalation phase.


This technique is practiced for its calming and soothing effects on the mind and nervous system. Not exhaling fully can keep your body in a stressed state, preventing the relaxation part from kicking in. Deep breathing allows us to tap into a space where we naturally experience more ease. When we breathe deeply, we engage the parasympathetic nervous system, triggering the "rest and digest" response. This state of relaxation brings a sense of calmness and balance, promoting overall well-being. By intentionally taking slow, deep breaths, we create an opportunity to drop into this peaceful space within ourselves, fostering a feeling of tranquility and allowing the body to rest and recover.


Bee Breath can be a refuge during moments of overwhelm when we practice regularly. Whether facing a tight deadline or dealing with the hustle and bustle of daily life, a few rounds of Bee breathing can be a go-to strategy for cultivating mindfulness.


Steps for Practicing Bee Breath:

  1. Get Comfortable: Find a comfortable seated position, either on the floor or in a chair, maintaining an upright spine. Keep your facial muscles relaxed throughout the practice. Place your hands on your lap.

  2. Close Your Eyes: Enhance your focus by closing your eyes and turning your attention towards your breath.

  3. Inhale Deeply: Take a slow, deep inhalation through your nostrils, filling your lungs with air.

  4. Exhalation with Humming: Seal your lips and exhale gradually, producing a gentle and steady humming sound. Feel the resonance in your head and chest.

  5. Vibrate and Concentrate: Concentrate on the vibration and calming quality of the humming sound as you continue to exhale.

  6. Repeat the Process: Engage in this cycle for five repetitions.
